The South Minneapolis homeless encampment made headlines following an opioid overdose death, but now the camera has turned, focusing in on a much smaller encampment in Saint Paul.
On the corner of Kellogg and interstate 35 over a dozen tents are spread out across the walkway.
Rumors and speculation have circulated at this point regarding a variety of solutions. One of them, although highly controversial, would address the deadly use of opioids.
Minneapolis councilmen Jeremiah Ellison told Minnpost he’s in favor of injection sites. Where the substance use could be controlled and monitored.
The major citizen concern for both encampments remains the falling temperatures. The first snowfall across the Twin Cities was short lived but winter is quickly approaching and a solution for those who are with out a home is needed before we reach below zero temperatures.
